Day-Two workshop of the "BEST with LESS Hong Kong Tertiary Sustainable Packaging (F&B Industry) Design Competition" continued with exciting and in-depth content.
For the morning session, we invited material experts – Ms. Grace Liang from Sabert and Mr. Eric Kai from Galaxy Paper Innovation to delve into design considerations, applications, and the manufacturing processes of bagasse and paper tableware respectively. These wonderful presentations laid a solid foundation for the contestants' subsequent food packaging design.
To help the participants gain a more understanding on the concepts of sustainable food packaging, Ms. Man Tsang from the Materials Resources Center of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University also shared detailed explanations of its definition and development trends.
The afternoon session was undoubtedly a highlight of this workshop, with several top designers in the industry bringing vast insights to our contestants. One of which is Mr. Stanley Wong (also known as Anothermountainman), the DFA World's Outstanding Chinese Designer, and Founder, Creative Director of 84000 Communications. He passed on his years of experience in the field of packaging design to contestants, emphasizing that effectiveness and uniqueness are the two key elements of packaging design. He had an in-depth discussion with them on how to use simple and creative techniques to create influential packaging design works.
Another design luminary, Mr. Henry Ho, Representative Director of GTDI and Founder of TOPAWARDS ASIA, meticulously analyzed multiple successful packaging design cases, teaching contestants how to balance functionality, aesthetics, and environmental friendliness in packaging design.
The workshop concluded with Dr. Royce Yuen, Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong and Co-CEO of MaLogic (Hong Kong). Sharing the perspectives of brand building and delved deeply into the nine key elements that sustainable packaging design ought to focus on, constructing a comprehensive and in-depth sustainable packaging design framework for the contestants, strengthening their design concepts, and providing valuable guidance.
This series of wonderful sharing on Day-Two not only showcased the cutting-edge technologies of sustainable packaging design, but also the unremitting efforts of designers pursuing a balance between environmental protection, aesthetics, and functionality.
